Someone once said that if your town had two newspapers and you can only afford one of them, buy the one you disagree with. Whoever said that, had made two observations. The first observation, is that the media is biased. This isn't questioned; it is just assumed. This is a perfectly natural assumption. We are all biased. Even though his assumption is natural, it's important to remind ourselves of it. News reporters are very good at giving the impression that they are simply reporting the facts objectively with no presuppositions. This in some ways is more dangerous then those who make their presuppositions known to all. It makes us trust them, when perhaps some skepticism would be healthy.
The second observation, is that it is good for use to have our own believe challenged. It's good for us to be reminded that there is another side.CategoriesActive Links - 425 / Categories - 138 |
