The Internet will go down in history as one of the greatest inventions ever. It will stand its place in the history books write next to the printing press. Its worth pausing for a moment to see how both of these inventions have benefited society in similar ways. Before the printing press, books had to be copied by hand. This made them largely inaccessible to the poor. The invention of the printing press made books cheap, and as a result literacy was no longer a privilege of the rich. This made knowledge available. No longer were people limited to what they were told by friends and family. They could get knowledge of anything that was written in a book. In a similar way, the Internet has made knowledge even more accessible. No longer are people limited to the books they can find in their local bookstore or library.
